RationAle Brewing Opens First Priced Seed Round, Allies With LA Libations and Homestead Brands

RationAle Brewing, the non-alcoholic beer brand born in Encinitas, has opened its first priced Series Seed financing round and formed a strategic growth alliance with LA Libations and Homestead Brands. The company announced both on Oct. 29 in a release published by San Diego Beer News.

The release doesn’t say how much RationAle Brewing is raising, who is leading the round or what the company is worth. It does say the round gives more than 100 early investors a pathway to convert their outstanding investments into equity. Those backers, the company says, have supported it “from its earliest days.”

What the RationAle Brewing seed round is for

Per the release, the money is meant to speed up retail expansion, strengthen priority markets and support new products heading into 2027. RationAle says it has spent 2026 investing in wholesale relationships and retail opportunities ahead of the spring 2027 shelf reset, with a strategy it sums up as “go deeper before going wider.”

“We don’t believe winning nationally means being everywhere,” co-founder Jamie Fay said. “We would rather invest deeply in the right markets, build strong velocities and become meaningful to our retail and wholesale partners than simply put another state on the map.” The beer is currently sold in 15 states.

LA Libations, Homestead Brands and Asahi

Under the alliance, RationAle Brewing pairs its brand with the partners’ commercialization, retail and market-development capabilities. “We believe the brand is at the right stage for us to bring our relationships, resources and experience alongside the team to accelerate what is already working,” said LA Libations’ Danny Stepper. Homestead Brands CEO Tom Larsen said RationAle “has been disciplined with capital” and “still has significant distribution whitespace ahead.”

Separately, RationAle Brewing says it is expanding its new-product pipeline with Asahi Brewing USA, combining its brand perspective with Asahi’s brewing expertise, technology and scaled production. The release doesn’t name any new beers or dates.

The sales claims, and whose numbers they are

Citing NIQ data, the company says it is the No. 1 NA craft beer brand by velocity across Southern California and No. 2 by dollar share in San Diego. It also says it is growing five times as fast as the U.S. NA craft beer category and ranks in the top 10 nationally for NA craft dollar-share growth. Those are the company’s figures. We haven’t seen the underlying NIQ data, and the release doesn’t give the time period.

In a crowded category, “getting on the shelf isn’t enough,” said co-founder and chief commercial officer Wendy Pickett; “you have to move once you get there.” The release also cites NIQ putting U.S. non-alcoholic beer, wine and spirits at $1.08 billion in sales, up 14.6%.

What RationAle pours

RationAle Brewing’s online shop currently lists a Hazy IPA, West Coast IPA, Kölsch Style, Mexican Style Brew and Japanese Style Dry. We covered the Kölsch launch back in 2024.
