Timestead San Diego has a new name. The Gaslamp bar and restaurant at Fourth Avenue and C Street is now Infinite Bar & Grille, and a Hawaiian-themed brewery called Makali’i Brewing is planned for the brewhouse attached to it, San Diego Beer News reported Oct. 28.
Timestead was the Modern Times-branded pub that opened at 1065 Fourth Ave. in late 2025. Before that, the building was The Local Eatery & Drinking Hole for 22 years. That makes Infinite the third name on the door at Timestead San Diego’s address in little more than a year.
What changed at Timestead San Diego
San Diego Beer News says Duncan Ward, the restaurateur who turned The Local into a Modern Times pub, is no longer involved. That cleared the way for Rhett Terrebonne, founder of the now-closed Niuhi Brewing, to make changes, starting with the name.
Modern Times is out, too. Wes Van De Vort, CEO of Wings & Arrow Brewing, which owns the Modern Times brand, told SDBN he has zero affiliation with the downtown venue.
The business announced the rebrand on social media on Oct. 27, SanDiegoVille reported, saying Timestead “is now operating independently under new ownership as Infinite Bar & Grille” and keeping its existing menu.
Makali’i Brewing moves in next to Timestead San Diego
Terrebonne told SDBN he is going ahead with Makali’i Brewing in the 1,700-square-foot brewery connected to the restaurant. That space was home to Resident Brewing until it shut in January 2025, and it has sat dormant since.
There is no firm timeframe for Makali’i’s debut. In July, SDBN reported that the name means “new beginning” and that Terrebonne planned IPAs, lagers, Pilsners and wheat beers.
Who owns Timestead San Diego? The reports don’t match
SDBN reported in July that Terrebonne had become majority owner of Timestead. SanDiegoVille tells a messier story. Ward told it that his company never sold or transferred the business and received no payment, and that its lease ended by agreement on Sept. 24, 2026, with Niuhi Brewing Company LLC named as the incoming tenant. SanDiegoVille says the competing accounts remain unresolved.
SanDiegoVille also says it found no state alcohol license under the Infinite or Makali’i names. We’ll update this as licensing records change.
Also closed: Una Más on Adams
A second San Diego goodbye this month: Una Más on Adams, the Baja-inspired restaurant and bar at 2611 Adams Ave. on the University Heights–North Park border, has closed for good after about a year, SanDiegoVille reports. It first told customers the closure was temporary, then announced it was permanent. The project was a partnership between developer Michael Donovan and Collin Corrigan, founder of Ensenada’s Cervecería Transpeninsular. No reason for the closure was given.
