AleSmith Speedway Stout Gets Two 12% Special Releases: Mexican Chocolate and Jamaica Blue Mountain

AleSmith Speedway Stout Gets Two 12% Special Releases: Mexican Chocolate and Jamaica Blue Mountain

Pit-stop alert from the San Diego sector: two jet-black cans just rolled out wearing checkered flags, and nobody has published a lap time.

Two new AleSmith Speedway Stout special releases are on the way from AleSmith Brewing Company in San Diego, California: a new Mexican Chocolate edition and a returning Jamaica Blue Mountain edition. Both are 12% ABV imperial stouts in 16-ounce cans, according to MyBeerBuzz, which reported on the label art from the brewery on Oct. 23, 2026.

AleSmith Speedway Stout: the two special releases

The first thing to know is that the beers are different. One leans on spice, the other on a single coffee.

That is all from packaging. MyBeerBuzz’s tasting talk is based on the ingredient list and the can copy, so treat it as expectation, not a review. We have no release date, price, pack size or distribution list for either AleSmith Speedway Stout special release. The brewery pages we checked do not list either release yet.

Not the same as the earlier Mexican Speedway

AleSmith has made a Mexican-themed Speedway before. AleSmith’s earlier Mexican Speedway page lists a different recipe: Mexican dark chocolate, sea salt and Mexican coffee, at 12% ABV and 70 IBU, as an August seasonal in 16-oz 4-packs. The new can adds cocoa, cinnamon, vanilla and ancho chile, and does not mention sea salt. So do not assume this AleSmith Speedway Stout is the old recipe in a new costume.

A San Diego stout with a long track record

The AleSmith Speedway Stout line has deep local roots. The can says “Proudly brewed & canned in San Diego, CA,” and “Est. 1995.” The year-round Speedway Stout is a 12% ABV, 70 IBU imperial stout that the brewery says gets locally roasted coffee in every batch. Its awards list includes a silver at the 2008 Great American Beer Festival in the aged beer category and golds at the San Diego International Beer Competition in 2012 and 2014.

The family keeps growing, too. In 2023 we covered the Speedway Stout Affogato Edition, a 12% imperial stout with espresso and Tahitian vanilla beans.

What we still don’t know about AleSmith Speedway Stout

  • When these cans ship, or how long they will last.
  • What they cost.
  • Whether they will get four-packs, singles or other sizes.
  • Which states, if any, beyond California will see them.

Until AleSmith says more, the Bureau’s field note on the AleSmith Speedway Stout special releases is simple: at 12%, pour it in a goblet, let it warm to 50-55°F, and drive nowhere afterward. The Bureau will update this post when AleSmith publishes the details.

Transmission complete. Please do not race the stout.
