Earth bulletin, Bay Area sector: two breweries have issued a public calm-down order, and it comes in a can.
Nobody Panic IPA is a 7% collaboration between Oakland’s Original Pattern Brewing Co. and Lagunitas of Petaluma. It was released Friday, Oct. 16, 2026, at Original Pattern’s taproom at 292 4th St. in Oakland and shipped the same day at noon, with delivery available across California, according to JollyPint’s summary of the brewery’s newsletter.
The name works as instructions. “Nobody Panic… There’s a plan,” the brewery writes. “Step one, crack a cold one.” The description ends with: “Step two? Well…” The Bureau has reviewed the plan and finds step one well within human capabilities.
The Nobody Panic IPA hop manifest
The hop bill is where this beer gets serious. Mosaic appears in three forms, and three New Zealand varieties, Nectaron, Riwaka and Nelson Sauvin, each appear in two. That is nine hop entries from four varieties, which is a lot of hops for a beer named for staying calm.
| Hop | Pellets | Cryo | DynaBoost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mosaic | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Nectaron | Yes | Yes | No |
| Riwaka | Yes | Yes | No |
| Nelson Sauvin | Yes | Yes | No |
A quick decoder for visiting life-forms. Cryo hops are a concentrated pellet made largely from lupulin, the part of the hop that holds its oils and resins. DynaBoost, as JollyPint explains, is a newer Yakima Chief Hops product: a pourable, variety-specific hop extract made for the whirlpool stage, where it adds aroma. Only Mosaic gets the DynaBoost treatment here.
What the brewery says Nobody Panic IPA tastes like
The Bureau hasn’t had a can yet, so these are Original Pattern’s words, not ours. The brewery says the beer “brings together dank diesel, fresh pine, juicy passionfruit, and ripe nectarine, all wrapped up in a resinous finish.” It describes “Mosaic in all its glory” meeting “a powerhouse lineup of New Zealand hops, including Nectaron, Riwaka, and Nelson Sauvin, for a bold collision of dank and tropical.”
That’s the whole flavor report. Any other Nobody Panic IPA tasting notes will have to come from your own sensory equipment.
Original Pattern and Lagunitas have done this before
Nobody Panic IPA isn’t the first meeting between Oakland and Petaluma. The two breweries previously teamed up on Nine Hundred Dollarydoos, an imperial IPA. Lagunitas has been in our archives for years, going back to our look at Lagunitas Sucks, so the Bureau is glad to see the Petaluma signal show up in a fresh collab.
According to JollyPint, Nobody Panic leads a larger batch of Original Pattern releases this week. The same newsletter also celebrates another Great American Beer Festival medal for the brewery’s pale ale How’s the Serenity, which JollyPint says makes two years in a row of GABF medals for Original Pattern.
Where these hops keep turning up
This hop bill follows a pattern the Bureau has been tracking on the West Coast. Nectaron and Cryo hops show up in Cellarmaker and Brujos’ The Ghost I Used To Be. Nelson Sauvin and Nectaron are both in North Park Beer Co.’s Dead as a Doornail. And Riwaka has its own fan club, as in Burgeon’s Keep It Riwaka IPA.
New Zealand hops, Nelson Sauvin especially, are having a big October on Earth. Nelson Sauvin is also the hop behind Eggers Hops’ New Moon Harvest project, a lot picked under March’s new moon in New Zealand’s Moutere Valley and sent to 90 breweries in 16 countries. Nobody Panic IPA isn’t part of that project. It just shows how much attention the variety is getting this fall.
