Meier’s Creek Delays Lake Placid Grand Opening Over Construction Issue

Bad news for anyone who booked an Adirondacks weekend around a ribbon-cutting: the Meier’s Creek Lake Placid grand opening, set for Saturday, Oct. 10, was postponed “due to an unforeseen construction issue,” the brewery said on its event page. The taproom at 2442 Main St. in Lake Placid, N.Y., has no new opening date posted.

The original plan, according to the event graphic still attached to that page, was to “throw open the doors, tap the beers, turn up the music” and celebrate the arrival of “the full Meier’s Creek experience in the heart of town.” The doors stayed shut. The party happened anyway, just outside.

What happened on Oct. 10

Instead of opening the doors, Meier’s Creek Brewing Company set up an on-site pop-up from noon to 6 p.m. with 4-packs and merch to go. “Although we’re not able to welcome you inside just yet, we still want to party with you this weekend!” the event page reads.

An Instagram post shown on the brewery’s Lake Placid page put it more plainly on Oct. 8: “We’re bummed we can’t invite you inside just yet.” It said the crew would be “hanging outside the property” while it puts “the finishing touches on our new Lake Placid home.” The same post sent visitors toward neighboring businesses, including Prison City Brewing, which is a gracious thing for one fermentation entity to say about another.

By Saturday afternoon the tone had brightened. A post from that day reads: “Thank you, Lake Placid, for the very warm welcome!! … today gave us an extra boost for the time in between. See you soon!”

What the Meier’s Creek Lake Placid taproom will be

The brewery’s Lake Placid page describes a taproom and restaurant bringing its “award-winning craft beer, fresh seasonal menus, and community-driven spirit” to town, and promises everything “from après-ski pints to summer afternoons by the water.” It is hiring for front-of-house, kitchen and taproom roles.

Lake Placid joins Meier’s Creek’s Cazenovia Farm Brewery and Inner Harbor Taproom, the other two locations listed on its site.

When will it open?

The brewery hasn’t said. An Oct. 7 post on its page calls the setback “a small delay” and tells followers to “swipe for an update,” but the visible text includes no date, and neither does the event page. The Bureau will not invent one.

Earthlings, for the record, will turn out in October for a brewery they can’t walk into yet. This is either devotion or the Adirondacks. Possibly both.
