Black Market Brewing Closing Nov. 15 After 17 Years in Temecula

Black Market Brewing Closing Nov. 15 After 17 Years in Temecula

Our long-range sensors keep picking up last calls in Southern California, and this one comes from Temecula’s very first landing site: Black Market Brewing will close after its final service on Sunday, Nov. 15. Black Market Brewing has poured in the same business-park unit off Interstate 15 since 2009, and owner Kevin Dyer says the lease will not be renewed, according to San Diego Beer News.

Why Black Market Brewing is closing

The building changed hands last year. In the social-media post announcing the closure, Dyer wrote that the investment group that bought it “did so with the specific purpose of converting those units to industrial condos for purchase only.” He added: “We attempted over the last year to negotiate with them on how we could stay. Ultimately those efforts failed, and our lease will not be renewed.”

The post also thanked “the city of Temecula and all our loyal customers local and afar who have supported us for nearly 18 years.”

Temecula’s first hometown brewery

Dyer opened Black Market in 2009 as Temecula’s first hometown brewery, and its beers have been distributed in both Riverside and San Diego counties. A wave of local breweries followed. Several of the city’s biggest early players, including Aftershock Brewing, Ironfire Brewing and Refuge Brewery, have since closed, which leaves Black Market as the last of Temecula’s early-era breweries.

It isn’t the company’s first closure. Black Market opened a satellite brewpub in San Diego’s College Area in 2019 and closed it in 2022 after a long lease fight.

Final hours and address

  • Address: 41740 Enterprise Circle North, Suite 109, Temecula
  • Last day: Sunday, Nov. 15
  • Hours until then: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday

North County has felt the same pressure lately, from The Roadies in Vista to the closures in our California brewery closings roundup.

One last pint before Nov. 15

Seventeen years is a long orbit for a brewery parked in an industrial suite. If Black Market was your first Temecula beer, you have until Nov. 15 to have the last one. No new location has been announced.

Transmission complete.
