Deschutes Hoptimist West Coast IPA Label Surfaces: 6.5% in Cans and Bottles

Deschutes Hoptimist West Coast IPA Label Surfaces: 6.5% in Cans and Bottles

Surf’s up in Bend, at least on paper: Deschutes Hoptimist is a new 6.5% West Coast IPA from Deschutes Brewery, and its label has just surfaced ahead of any official launch. The artwork, a big blue wave under a yellow sun, points to 12-ounce cans and bottles.

The label was published by MyBeerBuzz on Oct. 31, credited to Deschutes. Hop Grail, which tracks federal label filings, lists a TTB label approval dated Oct. 28. That’s all the paperwork tells us so far. There’s no release date, price or distribution plan yet.

What the Deschutes Hoptimist label says

Here’s the brewery’s own description, word for word from the label: “This West Coast IPA delivers waves of hops that surf over your tastebuds dropping in flavors of citrus, tropical fruit and pine with a crisp finish. May your Hoptimist glass always be half full!”

So citrus, tropical fruit, pine and a crisp finish are Deschutes’ claims, not ours. We haven’t tasted it, and the label doesn’t list hop varieties or IBUs.

The rest of the label is standard Deschutes: the “employee & family owned” badge with the 1988 founding year, a “Born in Bend Oregon” stamp and the brewery’s web and social handles. The design is the eye-catcher, with a turquoise background, red Deschutes side panels and a hand-drawn wave curling around the name.

Deschutes Hoptimist at a glance

  • Style: West Coast IPA (“India Pale Ale” on the label)
  • ABV: 6.5%
  • Package: 12 fl. oz. (355 mL), in cans and bottles per MyBeerBuzz
  • Label approval: Oct. 28, 2026, per Hop Grail
  • Release date, price, markets: not announced

Another new label from Bend

Hoptimist is the latest in a run of Deschutes label sightings. Last month the brewery’s paperwork showed a 6.5% hazy IPA and a renamed helles; read our report on Deschutes Even Funner Hazy IPA. Hoptimist matches Even Funner’s strength, but it takes the clear, piney West Coast route instead of the hazy one.

Waiting for the Hoptimist wave

A label approval usually means a beer is close, but it isn’t a launch announcement. Until Deschutes names a date and the markets getting Hoptimist, this is an early sighting. We’ll stay optimistic, glass half full, and update when the brewery does.

Transmission complete.
