Dread & Breakfast and its two ABVs
Dread & Breakfast is the headliner. Revolution calls it a two-year cuvée built with freshly roasted Dark Matter coffee and aged in extended-age and double-barreled casks, with equal parts French and American oak. Its description lists cocoa, vanilla, maple and subtle smoke. One catch: the same page gives the beer’s strength as 15.9% in the description and 15.7% on the spec line. We’ve shown both until the brewery sorts it out.
Straight Jacket, Ryeway to Heaven and the Calvados can
Straight Jacket is a barleywine finished in bourbon barrels. Revolution’s notes call out caramel, stone fruit, brown sugar and vanilla. Ryeway to Heaven is a barrel-aged ryewine with maple, brown sugar and candied pecan in the brewery’s description, finishing dry and rye-forward. D.B.V.S.O.J. Calvados is a barleywine aged in both bourbon and Calvados barrels. Revolution hasn’t posted its ABV or tasting notes yet.
Those flavor notes are Revolution’s own words. We haven’t poured these yet.
Season tickets and Dread & Brunch
Deep Wood season ticket holders already have the first three beers in their November allotment. The Calvados can is included only with the Twenty Ten Collection upgrade or the All-In ticket, according to the program page. Ticket holders can also RSVP for Dread & Brunch on Saturday, Nov. 7, a private brunch with a guided tasting of vintage and cellar-only Deep Wood beers.
Chicago’s other barrel program has been busy too. Our look at Half Acre Benthic Ten covers four barrel-aged stout variants for that beer’s 10th anniversary.
Four cans for the first cold Friday
Nov. 6 brings two 15% barleywine-family beers, a coffee-heavy breakfast blend and a Calvados can still keeping its numbers to itself. Next up for Deep Wood is the January 2027 release, led by V.S.O. Gravedigger. We’ll update the Dread & Breakfast figure if Revolution corrects the page.
Transmission complete.
