Pliny the Elder Pearls Before Swine bottles are coming. Russian River Brewing Company is releasing a limited-edition Pliny the Elder with label art by Stephan Pastis, the creator of the comic strip, to mark the strip’s 25th anniversary, The Press Democrat reported Oct. 27.
When the Pliny the Elder Pearls Before Swine bottles go on sale
The Press Democrat says the special bottles will be available locally starting the week of Nov. 2, and more broadly from Nov. 12 wherever Pliny the Elder is sold. That includes Whole Foods, Oliver’s Markets and Bottle Barn.
The Press Democrat gives no single on-sale day beyond those two windows. Check with your store or Russian River before you go.
Meet Stephan Pastis in Windsor
Pastis will be at the Windsor pub, 700 Mitchell Lane, from 5 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12. He’ll sign bottles and copies of his new book, “Pearls Jubilee,” which celebrates 25 years of the strip. The paper says copies will be sold at both Russian River locations, and that this is the second stop on his book tour.
“I cannot tell you how exciting it is to have my comic strip characters on the label of what is one of the greatest beers in the world,” Pastis said. “I will be the envy of all of my beer-drinking cartoonist peers.”
Co-owner Natalie Cilurzo said Pastis “has been an enthusiastic supporter and consumer of the brewery for years, so this collaboration is a natural fit.”
Inside the Pliny the Elder Pearls Before Swine bottle
Same Pliny. Russian River’s Pliny the Elder page lists the double IPA at 8.0% ABV, with Simcoe, Amarillo, Citra, Tangier, Nectaron and CTZ hops and notes of pine, citrus and stone fruit. Neither source says the recipe changes for this release.
Already plotting a Sonoma run? Russian River’s other famous release is Pliny the Younger; we covered its 2024 three-pack. The Pliny the Elder Pearls Before Swine edition is limited, so earthlings should move fast.
