Biscayne Bay Brewing Company Set to Open Second Location in Downtown Miami

biscayne bay brewing dt miami 2 |In 2017, after three years of consecutive growth, Biscayne Bay Brewing Company decided it was time to expand and open a new brewing concept even closer to its many fans in Miami. Immediately it became clear that Downtown Miami was the natural home for its second brewery and taproom. Downtown Miami’s unique neighborhood and unmatched history would complement the innovative direction they were heading. Instantly drawn to The Old United States Post Office and Courthouse building, which was designed by Kiehnel and Elliott and Oscar Wenderoth, it was clear no other building could provide the same experience and future for the independently owned company. Built in the early 1900’s and designated a historical site in 1989, Biscayne Bay Brewing Company moved quickly to secure a lease at the historic location, known as “Miami’s first brick and mortar post office.”

Amidst the continuing growth of the craft beer industry, Biscayne Bay Brewing Company is placing itself on the cusp of Downtown Miami’s revitalization efforts by becoming the first brewery and taproom in the area. Arguably Miami’s most historic section, this locale mixes rich municipal roots with modern Miami flair. Downtown features some of Miami’s most historic landmarks, futuristic structures and now the region’s largest transportation hub. Biscayne Bay Brewing Company’s flagship location will bring a “new classic” factor to this historic property and area. The brewery will be located on the third floor once known for housing The Miami Weather Bureau Office where it served as the first national weather service, which sprawls across an astonishing 6,200 square feet. This one of a kind space will house an entirely new concept in the Miami brewing scene. From a micro brewing system custom fabricated for the layout, small batches of artisanal and experimental beers will constantly be produced and rotated for customers. Miamians will continuously find innovative and new flavor creations to enjoy.

“Downtown Miami is diversifying and incorporating new elements onto the scene through new restaurants and bars, co-working spaces like We Work and more entertainment concepts” says Jose Mallea, Owner of Biscayne Bay Brewing Company. “We are excited to be in the forefront of the new wave of Downtown Miami’s Cultural District, bringing the first brewery to Downtown Miami for locals and tourists.”

Daniel Peña, Principal at Post Office Development LLC., and also the director of Stambul Construction Company, helped make this partnership possible. Peña has extensive experience working with historical properties, being responsible for the remodeling of the Langford Hotel in downtown, which was originally known as Miami National Bank. It was important to Peña and to Post Office Development, LLC. to find a flagship tenant that would respect the history of this landmark and help energize the downtown evolution, which is exactly what Mallea and Biscayne Bay Brewing Company plan to do.

“We build the future. That is why Biscayne Bay Brewing Company was the perfect tenant. I believe wholeheartedly, that their concept will enhance and reinvent the area,” says Daniel Peña, Principal of Post Office Development LLC. “Having this brewery downtown it will generate more people to visit this area. Breweries bring people together.”

Biscayne Bay Brewing Company will be opening its doors at The Old United States Post Office and Courthouse this Winter.
