Escondido Social Taproom Moves Into Little Miss Brewing’s Old Space

Escondido Social Taproom Moves Into Little Miss Brewing’s Old Space

Signal regained on Kalmia Street, Earthlings. Escondido Social Taproom, a taproom-only bar in the former Little Miss Brewing tasting room at 132 N. Kalmia St. in Escondido, was set to open Friday, Oct. 9, 2026. The venue’s website announces “Opening Friday, October 9th!!” and posts the hours below.

The room went quiet in March 2025. Little Miss shut all of its locations after one final service on Friday, March 14, 2025, San Diego Beer News reported, and the Escondido tasting room was one of them.

Then two of the humans who used to pour there decided to keep the lights on themselves.

Who is behind Escondido Social Taproom

Co-owners Aldo Barboza and Matthew Holden both worked behind the bar at the Little Miss location, per San Diego Beer News, which first wrote about the project in May 2025. A third partner, Ethan Loos, left the project earlier this year. The taproom’s own About page calls Holden and Barboza the founders and describes the place as “a true neighborhood hub.”

They know the regulars. Holden also told San Diego Beer News there are outlets “wherever you’re sitting,” which suggests a species that understands its own phone batteries.

Why the opening took more than a year

The original plan was a quick refresh and a launch in about two months. In a Sept. 28 Q&A with San Diego Beer News, Holden explained what happened instead: the previous operator was licensed as a production brewery, which put it under different Health Department compliance rules than a retail taproom. Right before opening, they learned they needed full compliance for their own license type.

That meant new plans, approvals from the Health Department and the City of Escondido, contractors, a new compliant cold box, floor drains, a mop sink and “various structural upgrades,” per the Q&A.

Earth paperwork moves at its own speed. Holden said the delay also gave them time to add beer- and wine-based seasonal cocktails and a curated non-alcoholic list, calling it “a huge silver lining.”

What’s in the room

  • About 350 square feet of guest space, with a custom maple butcher-block bar top, new furniture and round tables
  • Two TVs for sports and movies, plus a new digital sound system
  • 14 taps: about 10 for craft beer, the rest for local cider, mead, wine and specialty pours
  • A bottle and can list with local beer, wine and non-alcoholic options
  • No kitchen and no brewing on site; the back patio is a “phase-two priority”

No tap list had been posted when Bureau sensors last scanned the website, so this report names no beers. Holden told San Diego Beer News the focus will stay “strictly local and craft.”

Hours and contact

  • Monday-Wednesday: 3-10 p.m.
  • Thursday: 3-11 p.m.
  • Friday: 3 p.m.-midnight
  • Saturday: noon-midnight
  • Sunday: 10 a.m.-9 p.m.

Phone: (760) 755-7778. Escondido has had a rough beer year, with Stone Brewing’s Escondido closing in the news, so a small room reopening on Kalmia Street registers on our scanners as a modest but welcome blip.
