Braeloch Brewing Stays Put After Kennett Square’s 1903 Trolley Barn Sells for $2.3 Million

Braeloch Brewing Stays Put After Kennett Square’s 1903 Trolley Barn Sells for $2.3 Million

Braeloch Brewing is staying put. The Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, brewery’s building has been sold, but owners Kent and Amy Steeves say they have a long-term lease and no plans to leave, according to Breweries in PA.

Braeloch Brewing’s building sale: what was reported

Breweries in PA, citing The Philadelphia Business Journal, reports that:

  • the 16,000-square-foot building at 225 Birch St., known as Brewers Row KSQ, sold for $2.3 million;
  • the buyer is Square Roots Collective;
  • the building went up in 1903 as a trolley barn and later served the region’s mushroom industry;
  • Braeloch Brewing opened there in March 2019.

The building also houses Chaikhana Chai, and West Branch Distilling Co. previously occupied part of the property, the report says.

The Bureau has not seen the Philadelphia Business Journal article directly, so the price and buyer come secondhand through Breweries in PA. Treat this as a single regional report until another outlet or a property record confirms it.

“Just about having a new landlord”

Kent Steeves said the sale has prompted plenty of questions from customers. “We have had a lot of outreach asking if there is any change to Braeloch. We are happy to say that this change is just about having a new landlord. There are no changes to Braeloch and what we are offering the community,” he told Breweries in PA.

He also said the new owners want to keep building on Birch Street and are happy to include Braeloch Brewing. The brewery says it is focused on growing and giving customers the best experience it can.

What the new owners plan for the rest of the property has not been reported. Lease terms were not disclosed beyond “long-term.”

S’moregasm is back

In the same report, Breweries in PA notes that Braeloch Brewing just released S’moregasm S’mores Stout, a seasonal it calls a crowd favorite. The brewery did not share an ABV or tasting notes in that report, and the Bureau will not guess.

For locals, the takeaway is simple: same taproom, same people, new name on the deed. Braeloch Brewing is pouring as usual, and the trolley barn stays in beer service.

Transmission complete. Toast a marshmallow for the Birch Street crew.
