The stage behind the bar in Vista went quiet at the end of August. Now The Roadies Brewing, the brewery and live-music venue that closed then, is staging a comeback with two new partners: Mexico City Cuisine and Metrico Hospitality Group. Owners Diane and Sean Hilz told San Diego Beer News on Sept. 25 that they planned to reopen Thursday, Oct. 1. Bureau sensors see strong signs the taproom is back, but no reopening announcement from the brewery itself yet.
What happened
The Roadies opened in August 2024 at 1495 Poinsettia Ave., Unit 148, in Vista, a brewery built around a stage and sound system for live music. The Hilzes announced the closure in August 2026, during the brewery’s second-anniversary weekend. “Over the past several months, we’ve faced some incredibly difficult circumstances, including a significant amount of debt and the loss of Sean’s mom,” Diane told San Diego Beer News. Head brewer Peter Perrecone has since taken the lead production job at TapRoom Beer Co. in North Park.
Who’s behind The Roadies Brewing now
The Hilzes still own it. According to the Sept. 25 report, Mexico City Cuisine is a catering company in the same Vista business park. Owner Leo Garcia is turning his catering kitchen into a full-service restaurant that will also feed the tasting room through QR-code ordering, which lets The Roadies add lunch hours.
Metrico Hospitality Group runs an event venue in Bonsall and plans to pour only Roadies beer at its events. Its owners, John Collazo, Dax Parra and Daniel Torres, are also launching a distribution company to get the beer into retail accounts and festivals. “We believe the foundation is already here. Our role is to help build upon it,” Collazo said.
“With the support and buy-in of our new partners, we have the opportunity to reopen,” Diane said. The Hilzes are interviewing candidates for a new head brewer, and several former staff members have committed to return.
So, is it open?
Signs point to yes, but the brewery hasn’t said so. Here’s what the Bureau could verify on Oct. 9. The brewery’s website lists the same hours San Diego Beer News reported for the reopening: Monday through Thursday 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m.-11 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Its events calendar shows a show on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 7 to 9 p.m. with Ashley E Norton, $5 cover, added Oct. 5. One caveat: the Bureau couldn’t check whether those hours simply carried over from before the closure.
But the brewery hasn’t posted a reopening announcement, and the Oct. 2 (The Tones) and Oct. 3 (Occupier) shows from the Sept. 25 report aren’t on its calendar. Call (760) 295-2416 before making the trip. If the comeback holds, The Brothers Grim will headline a Halloween event, per the same report.
