After being on the market for only one year, Pursuit United has been crowned “Best Bourbon” at the 2022 John Barleycorn Awards for Spring. Pursuit United received a Double Gold and Pursuit United Rye was given Gold in this particular competition. Pursuit Spirits, the brand behind the co-creators of the popular podcast Bourbon Pursuit, are continuing to excel and innovate as new producers in the whiskey market.
“There is a big risk when creating your own proprietary blend,” says co-founder Kenny Coleman. “It would have been easy to source from one distillery that has won plenty of awards but we wanted to be different and develop a bourbon the world hasn’t seen yet. It’s thrilling to see this achievement happen so soon.”
Ryan Cecil, co-founder of Pursuit Spirits, adds, “The John Barleycorn Awards is one of the most prestigious spirits competitions in our industry and we are honored the judges ranked Pursuit United the top bourbon. This award speaks to the quality whiskeys produced by our distilling partners and our devotion to creating unique blends that resonate with whiskey enthusiasts.”
Pursuit United is a blend of mashbills from 3 different distilleries in 3 different states. The small batch blend of straight bourbon whiskeys is bottled at 108 proof (54% Alc./Vol.) and non-chill filtered to maintain more barrel character. Tailored to the growing number of whiskey drinkers that want transparency, the blend consists of bourbons from Bardstown Bourbon Company, Finger Lakes Distilling, and an undisclosed distillery in Tennessee that is not located in Tullahoma.
Pursuit United was launched in January of 2021 with only 2000 bottles. The second release was in July 2021 with a larger presence and bottle count. Pursuit Spirits has raised over $2M to fund new whiskey investments and grow the Pursuit United brand.
