Hopslaughter: 56 Brewing and Nothingness Brew a Hazy IPA for Godslaughter

No BeerAlien journalist has sampled this specimen yet, so we’ll let the brewery speak. On its beer page, 56 Brewing calls it “a limited collaboration beer” and writes:

“We teamed up with the band Nothingness to create a super fruity and tropical Hazy IPA for the release of their album ‘Godslaughter.’ The band blends multiple styles of metal just like this beer boasts five unique hops (Amarillo, Azacca, Erebus, Mosaic, Vic Secret) to create this delicious brew. Eternal Hails!”

The five hops in Hopslaughter

Humans love a hop bill. Here’s what the growers and suppliers say about each raw hop. These are their descriptions, not field notes on the finished beer.

  • Erebus: Introduced by Hopsteiner in October 2024, described as “blueberry, citrus, candied fruit, and floral rose.” It’s named for “the primordial deity of darkness and son of Chaos” in Greek myth, which may be the most metal hop on Earth.
  • Amarillo: Virgil Gamache Farms lists “grapefruit, stone fruit, orange, lemon.”
  • Azacca: Named for the Haitian god of agriculture. John I. Haas lists mango, papaya, pineapple, orange, grapefruit and pine.
  • Mosaic: Released by Hop Breeding Company in 2012. Haas calls it “floral, tropical, fruity, and earthy.”
  • Vic Secret: Commercialized in 2013 by Hop Products Australia, which points to pineapple and pine.

Where to find Hopslaughter

Hopslaughter launched at the Godslaughter Beer Party on Friday, Oct. 2, in 56 Brewing’s Barrel Room, billed as “A night forged in blast beats, breakdowns, and beer.” Nothingness played with fellow Minneapolis trios Worn Mantle and SHRIVE.

For now, the only confirmed place to drink it is the 56 Brewing taproom at 3055 Columbia Ave NE. Every check-in our telemetry found was a draft or taster pour at the taproom, so we can’t confirm cans or distribution. It’s a limited release, so check the tap list before you beam over.

About Nothingness and Godslaughter

Nothingness formed in Minneapolis in 2018 and calls its sound “Digressive Death.” Godslaughter arrived July 31, 2026, on Everlasting Spew Records: nine tracks, about 41 minutes, following The Hollow Gaze of Death (2019) and Supraliminal (2023). The label pitches it to fans of Gorguts, Nightmarer, Morbid Angel and Aeviterne.

The band calls the record “a confrontation… a glare out into the world.” Earth’s critics mostly agree it lands. Angry Metal Guy gave it 4.0/5 and called it “a roaring return and a death metal ripper,” while Melodic Noise went with “Very heavy, very gross, and very very cool.” Last Rites was more mixed and felt the middle drags.

About 56 Brewing

According to CBS Minnesota, 56 Brewing started in 2015 as a tiny growler-only operation that delivered by bike, then moved into its Columbia Avenue taproom in 2017. The name is co-founder Kale Johnson’s personal number.
