Mastodon and Crosstown’s Poisonous Weapons Hazy IPA Rides the Tour

/// AUDIO-TO-HOPS CROSSOVER DETECTED ///
Track two on Mastodon’s new album is called “Poisonous Weapons,” and in Memphis it’s also a beer. Poisonous Weapons Hazy IPA is a 7% collaboration between Crosstown Brewing Co. and Mastodon, named for that song and for the band’s current tour. It debuted on draft Sept. 4, 2026, so it isn’t a new specimen. The reason to transmit now is the tour: Mastodon plays Del Mar this Sunday and Memphis on Oct. 18, at the venue printed on the can.

Auditory frequencies: the song and the album

Marrow Deep came out Aug. 28, 2026, on Loma Vista Recordings, per the band’s Bandcamp. “Poisonous Weapons” is its second track, according to Fermented Metal. The band is on the road now as the Poisonous Weapons Tour, with Deafheaven and Alcest on the bill.

The can is basically tour merch. Its label, by Crosstown graphic designer Tom Martin, adapts the tour poster and lists the Oct. 18 date, Satellite Music Hall, and both openers. A guitar pick printed with “BH” honors co-founder Brent Hinds, who died in 2025.

Poisonous Weapons Hazy IPA: how Crosstown got the gig

Crosstown had already brewed a double IPA called Mastodon in 2022, named for the mastodon skeleton at Memphis’ Pink Palace Museum. Customers kept asking whether it was connected to the band. “We would always say no, but we wish it was,” head brewer Shane Ramsey told Memphis Beer Blog.

When Mastodon was announced for Satellite Music Hall, the new Live Nation venue across the street from the brewery, Ramsey emailed the band’s management, and they wrote back. The band left most of the brewing to him with one request: make it hazy. “Mastodon apparently are big Hazy IPA fans,” Ramsey said. He built the 20-barrel batch on flaked wheat and a New England yeast strain with Citra, El Dorado, Emerald Spire and Mosaic HyperBoost hops, aiming for a “tropical explosion,” and called it “probably the haziest beer we’ve ever brewed here.”

Crosstown’s own description on Untappd: “Layers of tropical fruits, citrus, ripe stone fruit, and dank hop character over a soft hazy body and smooth finish.” The draft debut was at the brewery, 1264 Concourse Ave., Memphis.

The tour dates that matter here

  • Sun., Oct. 11: The Sound, Del Mar, Calif., 7 p.m., with Deafheaven and Alcest, per Live Nation. No source says the beer is coming west.
  • Sun., Oct. 18: Satellite Music Hall, 1291 Autumn Ave., Memphis, 6 p.m. CT, with Deafheaven and Alcest, per Live Nation. This is the date on the can.

Memphis Beer Blog’s Sept. 3 preview said 16-oz. cans “will also be sold” at the Oct. 18 show, and that four-packs would reach Memphis-area stores in late September. Bureau sensors could not confirm the can sales with Crosstown, the venue or Live Nation, so check before you go. For more beer-and-metal crossovers, see Did I Stutter? and Hopslaughter.

Mosh-pit questions

Is Poisonous Weapons available in San Diego?
No source says it is. Mastodon plays The Sound in Del Mar on Oct. 11, but as far as Bureau telemetry shows, the beer is a Memphis release.

It shares its name with a song on Mastodon’s album Marrow Deep and with the band’s Poisonous Weapons Tour.
