North Park’s The Original 40 Brewing Company, voted as Best Brewpub 2024 by readers of San Diego Magazine, today released Left Coast West Coast IPA on draft and in four packs of 16-oz cans. Brewer Steven Terán made the announcement.
Left Coast is 7.0% alcohol-by-volume (ABV), and it was brewed with Amarillo, Chinook, and Simcoe Cryo hops. The medium light bodied beer has aromas of tropical fruits with underlying pine and dankness. It finishes with flavors of grapefruit and other citrus notes.
“’Left coast is the best coast so we named a beer after it even though it might be a little redundant for the style,” Terán said. “We left it all on the line for this one and we believe we did it right.”
Left Coast is one of three West Coast IPAs on the current tap menu, joining Big Tings (Double West Coast IPA) at 9% ABV and Three & A Half at 7.0% ABV.
“You can never have enough good West Coast IPAs,” said Original 40 Founder Steve Billings. “The can artwork pays tribute to San Diego’s endless summer and the majestic sunsets we see so often.” The Beer Aliens agree, bring on more West Coast IPAs!
Original 40 won Runner-Up honors for Best Brewery 2024 from San Diego Magazine as well. Winners were announced in May in the publication’s Best Restaurants 2024 issue.
Original 40 opens at 12:00 noon Monday – Friday and at 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The brewpub, which was named after the original 40-acre parcel of land that became modern day North Park, is located at 3117 University Avenue. Draft beers are $5 during happy hour from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Monday – Friday.
