It was 24 years ago that Greg Koch and Steve Wagner founded a small brewery, and committed themselves to brewing the kinds of beers THEY wanted to drink. Almost two and a half decades later, we’d say it’s worked out pretty well.
Stone is celebrating this particular milestone the way they celebrate most things, with a big, bold, beautiful double IPA! Stone 24th Anniversary DidgeriDoom Double IPA is packed with 24 years of IPA obsession, along with plenty of Galaxy, Ella and Vic Secret hops, to be specific. (All Australian-born hops, hence the beer’s name.)
“Australian hops may be a well-loved staple in craft beer now, but when we started up a small brewery in North County San Diego twenty-four years ago, they were unattainable on our side of the Pacific. These intense varieties boast a multitude of dank & tropical elements, building a flavor profile as powerful as the sound of a didgeridoo. Or a limited-press vinyl of some lesser-known doom metal. Where classic West Coast bitterness meets modern fruit-forward hoppiness, this trans-Pacific recipe featuring Galaxy, Ella and Vic Secret seeks to combine more than one genre. DidgeriDOOM… We like the sound of that.”
Flavor Notes: Citrus/mandarin orange, watermelon, passion fruit, pine and light floral notes lead into intense citrus rind/orange flavors. There is a slight malt sweetness, medium body with strong bitterness.
