The new beer & pizza hangout is set to open on Monday, February 11th in the heart of Silver Lake, Los Angeles, at 3903 Sunset Blvd, offering more than 100 craft beers in cans, unique salads and sides, and both thin and thick crust pizza with creative toppings (vegan and non-vegan options available!). A true beer-lover’s paradise, California Sun will also have 14 beers on tap from New Original Breweries (the brewpub group of ABC) and other craft favorites like Pliny the Elder.
California Sun represents the culmination of ABC’s love for beer, with over 100 craft options in the heart of a neighborhood that is dear to founder Tony Yanow’s heart as a local. The convenience store set up fosters an environment in which there is an accessibility to unique beers that many aren’t familiar with—come in to enjoy a new beer and slice on the patio, or mix and match your own 6-pack to go!
A New Neighborhood Hangout Opens on Sunset Boulevard
LOS ANGELES, CA (February 5, 2019) – If you’ve been feeling the dreary winter blues, your new neighborhood pizza and beer joint is finally here to lift your spirits. California Sun is slated to open its doors on Monday, February 11, 2019, at 3903 Sunset Boulevard. The hassle-free, convenience store-style bar and pizzeria will offer over 100 craft beers, unique salads and sides, and both thin and thick crust pizza with creative toppings.
“There are so many great places to eat and drink in Silver Lake and we are excited to add to that,” said Tony Yanow, one of the founders of Artisanal Brewers Collective (ABC), the group behind California Sun. “California Sun is meant to be an easy place to hang out or pick up some delicious food and beer to go. We wanted to bring a casual, walkable spot to the neighborhood with something for everyone.”
When you walk in to California Sun, a three-door cooler will greet you with a mix of craft beers, independent soda and wine—all in cans. You’ll also be able to choose from 14 beers on tap from New Original Breweries (the brewpub group of ABC) and other craft favorites like Pliny the Elder. Beer koozies on-site (for borrowing, buying or stealing) will take inspiration from all music and culture genres with messages like “Anarchy in the IPA.”
Much like a convenience store, you’ll make your way from the cooler to the display of pizza and salad, where you can choose a meal directly from the case or place an order from the eclectic menu. Pick up some slices to go and a six pack of unique craft beers (mix your own!) or order a custom pie and choose some salads to share on the patio, under the real California Sun. For an old-school diner experience, grab a seat at the iconic V-shaped bar with bolted down, “pancake house classic” barstools. Whether you’re with friends, your kids, or your dog, California Sun will be your go-to spot for a beer and a slice.
Let’s talk pizza! California Sun will have Detroit-style personal pan pies with cheese baked into the deepest layer of crust, with crazy-fun flavors that will be served only until they are gone. Try pan pies like the puttanesca, made with capers, black olives, chili flake, dulse and squid ragu, or the sausage in my pocket, made with hot Italian sausage, block cheese and red sauce. California Sun will also serve thin-crust, NYC-style pizza by the slice or 20” pie. Of course, there will be traditional cheese and pepperoni, as well as some far-out options like taco pie, made with refried beans, black olives, pickled jalapeno, cherry tomato, pizza sauce, avocado crema and shredded lettuce. You can also build your own round pies. Finally, delicious and filling sides, salads and proteins in the cold case will include options like hot honey eggplant, made with Japanese eggplant, hot honey and chili flake, and the spicy spinach salad, made with baby spinach, arugula, bok choy, jalapeno dressing, bosc pear, toasted walnut and radish sprout. Vegan and non-vegan options will be available, and most proteins and vegetables will be roasted in the hearth. Whether you are gluten-free, paleo, keto, vegetarian or vegan, California Sun has something for you.
California Sun will be open 7 days a week from Monday – Thursday 11am-11pm, Friday 11am-12am, Saturday 10am-12am, and Sunday 10am-11pm. Delivery will be available until 2am Friday and Saturday on popular platforms like Grubhub and Uber Eats.
