D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc. is sponsoring a $5,000 tuition award to a new student Veteran for the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg’s Brewing Arts Program. The award will be for the January 2018 cohort and is the third time a brewery is sponsoring a Veteran award for the program.
“As America’s Oldest Brewery, we are a family-owned business built on strong heritage and traditions. We strongly support our veterans who have served and represent our country’s freedom, integrity and independence,” said Jennifer Yuengling, VP of Operations for D.G Yuengling & Son, Inc. “As a neighbor and partner to USF, we proudly support their Brewing Arts Program and the opportunity for a veteran to study brewing and join this exciting industry.”
The Brewing Arts program is a collaboration between USFSP College of Arts and Sciences and many local and national breweries. Launched in 2015, the Program is designed for those who range from hobbyists to enthusiasts looking to make a career in the industry by working in a brewery or opening a brewery one day. The award will allow a Veteran student to learn foundational knowledge via online courses as well as complete hands-on training with a local brewery.
“This is such wonderful news and we are humbled that Yuengling will be awarding full tuition to a veteran for our program,” said Jennifer Sedillo, the Brewing Arts Program Director. “We are always looking for new partnerships such as this to provide greater opportunities for those interested in the brewing arts.”
The world of craft brewing is one of the fastest growing industries in the U.S. According to a study by the Florida Brewers Guild, based on recent growth trends in the industry and Florida’s population, the state could support more than 500 craft breweries, leading to a total economic output of $2.5 billion and 40,000 jobs.
Applications for the award will be accepted between until November 30. For more information, contact Jennifer Sedillo at: jsedillo@mail.usf.edu.
