At long last, winter is here, the final battle for Westeros is underway, and Brewery Ommegang is unveiling its final Game of Thrones-inspired beer, For The Throne. As part of an ongoing partnership, the Chicago Athletic Association hotel (12 S. Michigan Ave.) and the Chicago Brewseum are joining forces to host the official release party of this limited-edition beer in honor of the show’s final season.
Within the Chicago Athletic Association hotel’s Madison Ballroom, guests will be transported to the home of the Iron Throne with a light feast and leisurely merriment – and of course, costumes. Taking place from Tuesday, April 9 from 7 – 10PM, this ticketed evening includes:
- Game of Thrones Trivia: Hosted by Whaddayaknow? Free Pub Trivia, this themed round of questions puts devout fans to the test.
- Historian’s Corner: Liz Garibay of the Chicago Brewseum and Lucas Livingston of the Art Institute of Chicago invite guests to partake in brief 10-minute history talks that explore Medieval era drinking culture. Explore topics such as Medieval Merry-Making, Drink Like A Dothraki, Grain & Grape, and Witchy Woman.
- Themed String Quartet: Chicago-based musicians of Parkwest Strings amplify the evening with a performance of the series’ thematic score.
- Costume Contest: No matter where allegiances lie, festival attire is welcome – nay, encouraged – culminating in a final costume contest with prizes at the end of the evening.
Tickets for the April 9th event include a sample of Ommegang’s For The Throne, 1 Drink Token (redeemable for Ommegang Witte, Pale Sour, or Brut IPA), medieval morsels, and participation in prized trivia and costume contest ($30 per ticket, 21+; tickets can be purchased at: http://chicagoathleticevents.com/tc-events/for-the-throne/).

About For The Throne
Complex and compelling, yet delicate and refined, For the Throne is Brewery Ommegang’s tribute to the final occupant of the Iron Throne. This strong golden ale is co-fermented with Pinot Grigio and Viognier grape juices, then bottle conditioned with Champagne yeast. The beer pours a striking golden copper with a fluffy white head. Aromas of honeysuckle and toasted grain mingle with notes of pear and apricot. The finish is clean and dry, with vibrant effervescence. For the Throne is an ale fit for royalty.
