A Hoppy Partnership: Breweries Join Forces to Craft a Custom Beer for Parks California
- Smog City Brewing Company and Alvarado Street Brewery combine forces to create the Park Hopper Hazy IPA
- Proceeds to support Parks California’s Parks for Everyone initiative, which builds opportunities for all people to access and connect with the outdoors
- Breweries to produce 1,000 cases for August 6 release and expected to sell out in less than three weeks
WHAT:
A very special partnership is brewing to launch on Friday, August 6. Popular craft breweries Smog City Brewing Company, based out of Torrance, California and Alvarado Street Brewery, based out of Salinas, California have created a custom craft beer playfully named “Park Hopper”. The joint endeavor benefits Parks California‘s Parks for Everyone initiative, which builds opportunities that give all people the opportunity to reap the benefits of connecting with the outdoors in a way that’s meaningful to them.
The partnership, a first-time collaboration between the two breweries and Parks California, will result in a Hazy IPA containing approximately six percent alcohol (Smog City’s version is 6.8 percent). Each brewery will brew a slightly different take on the beer in taste and composition, while the “Park Hopper” name will remain the same. Smog City Brewing Company plans to brew 650 cases of the beer while Alvarado Street Brewery will brew 350 cases of the beer – all of which is projected to sell out in just under three weeks. On August 6, Park Hopper will be available for purchase in four-packs at both breweries and in-store at Southern California Trader Joe’s. Online ordering information will be made available soon.
Smog City Brewing Company, Alvarado Street Brewing and Parks California began collaborating as fellow members of 1% for the Planet – a program which encourages businesses to donate one percent of sales to environmental causes via nonprofit partners.
WHY:
Parks California believes that parks are central to California’s identity, and that everyone deserves the opportunity to forge a meaningful relationship with nature, which in turn grows our understanding and respect for one another and the planet. Yet for many communities, there are limitations – both tangible and intangible – that keep many people from accessing California’s 280 State Parks and the innumerable mental, physical, and emotional health benefits that come with being in nature.
The organization’s Parks For Everyone initiative supports programs that reduce these barriers and build opportunities that give all people the chance to reap the benefits of connecting with the outdoors.
Through meaningful and innovative partnerships with government agencies, businesses, nonprofits, and communities, Parks California expands programs and resources that welcome multi-generational and diverse visitors to California’s parks and public lands.
QUOTES:
“We’re always eager to collaborate with businesses that are willing to create something new for a good cause,” says Parks California Director of Community Engagement Myrian Solis Coronel. “Alvarado Street Brewery and Smog City Brewing Company have been incredible partners because they believe in the power of business to have a positive impact on our communities and the land around us. We’re very grateful to 1% for the Planet for connecting us with this opportunity!”
“We believe that supporting environmental non-profits is essential to protecting and promoting sustainable practices on the land that we love and rely on so much. When we teamed up with Smog City to produce a 1% For the Planet collaborative beer, we searched for a non-profit that not only cultivates holistic, environmental communities but also makes California’s majesty accessible to all. Parks California does just that!” says Brock Bill, director of social and digital media for Alvarado Street Brewery. “At Alvarado Street Brewery, we believe in good beer and good choices. With this collaboration, we couldn’t be more pumped to share this delicious Hazy IPA and to stand behind and support a non-profit that encourages us as Californians, and visitors alike, to appreciate, learn from and protect this beautiful place we call home.”
“Our entire team is excited for the release of Park Hopper,” says Brand & Retail Director at Smog City Brewing Company Aften Lee. “Not only did we get to work with another amazing 1% for the Planet member-brewery, but we are also getting to support an incredible nonprofit with this beer. Parks California has so many important initiatives going on right now, we are proud to be their partner. We want our drinkers to take the time to learn more about the important work they’re doing – while sipping on a Park Hopper, of course.”
