American Craft Beer Week Returns May 13-19 2024

Break out the lawn chairs and dust off the coolers because American Craft Beer Week (ACBW) is back, heralding the unofficial start of beer season. From May 13 through May 19, 2024, humans (and aliens) across the nation will converge in taprooms and breweries to celebrate the vibrant world of craft beer, showcasing its innovations and craftsmanship. Hosted by the Brewers Association® (BA), this annual celebration not only honors the artistry behind brewing but also underscores the pivotal role craft beer plays in American culture and the economy.

Craft beer has undeniably become a cornerstone of American culture. In 2023, the nation witnessed a record high of 9,761 independent craft breweries, demonstrating the exponential growth and unwavering passion within the industry. What’s more, the majority of Americans now live within a mere 10 miles of a craft brewery, highlighting the accessibility and widespread appeal of artisanal beer. The impact doesn’t end there; craft brewers collectively produced a staggering 23.4 million barrels of beer last year, employing over 191,000 individuals directly. These numbers not only speak to the economic vitality of the craft beer sector but also reflect its significance as a community hub.

Ann Obenchain, Vice President of Marketing and Communications at the Brewers Association, captured the essence of craft breweries as more than mere businesses, “Craft breweries aren’t just businesses; they’re the heartbeat of our communities, fostering connections and enriching our neighborhoods. With every sip of craft beer, we’re not just tasting quality; we’re investing in the livelihoods of growers, distributors, and brewers. Let’s raise our glasses and support the local gems that make our cities and towns shine.”

As we embark on American Craft Beer Week, let’s take a moment to appreciate the craftsmanship, innovation, and camaraderie that define the craft beer movement. It’s a time to explore new brews, revisit old favorites, and revel in the creativity of brewers pushing the boundaries of flavor and technique. Whether you’re a seasoned craft beer fan or a curious newcomer, there’s something for everyone to enjoy during this celebration of all things craft beer.

Let us all make a commitment to visit a new brewery (you know the one you keep putting off) and try their beers. That new brewery just might become your new local favorite. Check the social media profiles of the craft breweries in your area to find out about events, beer releases and other ways they are celebrating American Craft Beer Week.

So, let’s raise our glasses in salute to American Craft Beer Week, honoring the spirit of innovation and community that continues to make the craft beer scene thrive. Cheers to the brewers, the drinkers, the maltsters, the hop farmers, the yeast suppliers and everyone else who plays a part in this ever-evolving journey of flavor and friendship.

Here’s to another week of raising the bar, one brewery at a time.
