Lone Star Brewing\u00a0is “unleashing the armadillo” for Texas Independence Day (March 2<\/span>) to celebrate its beloved home state. An ode to its popular mascot from the Cosmic Cowboy era,\u00a0Lone Star<\/span>\u00a0will be celebrating by unleashing the armadillo with a limited edition merchandise collaboration with\u00a0Texas<\/span>\u00a0artist\u00a0Matt Tumlinson<\/span>\u00a0as well as a Tumilson mural in\u00a0San Antonio<\/span>\u00a0facilitated by San Antonio Street Art Initiative.<\/p>\n
During the cosmic cowboy era of the brand (1960’s – 1970’s),\u00a0Lone Star<\/span>\u00a0brought on Armadillo World Headquarters house artist\u00a0Jim Franklin<\/span>\u00a0to create branded posters and Franklin insisted they would feature armadillos. Franklin had a love for armadillos, and his\u00a0Lone Star<\/span>\u00a0armadillo depictions grew so popular that in 1971 the UT student senate\u00a0voted to replace Bevo with the armadillo<\/a><\/u>\u00a0as the school mascot.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
“We are excited to use this cultural moment to give independent\u00a0Texas<\/span>\u00a0artists a platform to show off their work. The goal here was to celebrate\u00a0Texas<\/span>\u00a0with a fun nod to our brand’s heritage. Lone Star<\/span>\u00a0is launching a limited-edition merchandise collaboration with artist\u00a0Matt Tumlinson<\/span>. Based in\u00a0San Antonio, TX<\/span>, Tumlinson is a multifaceted artist and his work has been showcased in fine art galleries throughout the country. For the project with\u00a0Lone Star<\/span>, Tumlinson took inspiration from the classic\u00a0Lone Star<\/span>\u00a0armadillo work. The “Rodeo ‘Dillo” merchandise capsule includes a limited one-time print t-shirt, hats, and bandana, all\u00a0available online<\/a><\/u>\u00a0now until it sells out. All of the merchandise was produced in\u00a0Texas<\/span>\u00a0with the help of\u00a0Morgan Mercantile<\/a><\/u>\u00a0in Fort Worth.<\/p>\n
Additionally,\u00a0Lone Star<\/span>\u00a0partnered with the\u00a0San Antonio Street Art Initiative<\/a><\/u>\u00a0(SASAI) – an artist-run, independent, nonprofit charity that focuses on education in career development and mural art programming – to create a mural by\u00a0Matt Tumlinson<\/span>\u00a0that boasts his artist interpretation of Texas Pride inspired by vintage\u00a0Lone Star<\/span>\u00a0memorabilia. The mural will be available for viewing starting on\u00a0March 2<\/span>\u00a0at 620 E Dewey Pl,\u00a0San Antonio, TX<\/span>\u00a078212, and will be the newest mural in\u00a0THE LARGEST OUTDOOR GALLERY IN TEXAS\u2122<\/a><\/u>.<\/p>\n
