That interest, San Diego Beer News<\/i><\/b><\/a> (SDBN) has since become the most-searched and comprehensive online resource for information on the county\u2019s 150-plus brewing companies and beer-centric businesses. To celebrate SDBN\u2019s upcoming one-year anniversary, award-winning Carlsbad-based brewery, Burgeon Beer Co.<\/b><\/a>, has brewed a collaboration beer to commemorate that milestone. A hoppy West Coast IPA overflowing with tropical and citrus flavors and aromas, the beer is called Cover Story IPA<\/b> and will debut at a public-release event at Burgeon\u2019s Little Italy tasting room on Friday, August 6<\/b>.<\/p>\n \u201cStarting a business during a pandemic was daunting, but it had been a longtime ambition of mine to create a modern, utile website providing daily news on San Diego\u2019s thriving beer scene as well as resources for locals and visitors alike,\u201d says founder and Executive Editor Brandon Hern\u00e1ndez<\/b>. \u201cIt\u2019s been a sincere honor to provide a platform for local breweries, especially at a time when they needed a voice and a helping hand more than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n A native San Diegan, Hern\u00e1ndez has covered San Diego\u2019s brewing industry for local and national magazines, newspapers, television stations, podcasts and online outlets for 14 years. He has also authored a pair of guides to San Diego County breweries and worked in the marketing departments for local operations Stone Brewing, AleSmith Brewing and Societe Brewing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In devising the recipe for Cover Story IPA, Burgeon co-founder and Head Brewer Anthony Tallman<\/b> asked Hern\u00e1ndez if he had any preferences. The beer journalist\u2019s wish list was that the beer incorporate Mosaic hops as well as a hop varietal from New Zealand, and come in between 6.5 and 7% alcohol-by-volume. The resulting 6.8%, crisp, medium-bodied IPA boasts a dynamic hop bill that includes Mosaic, Motueka (from New Zealand), Citra, Simcoe and Cashmere, which combine to create vibrant aromas and flavors of pineapple, passion fruit, tangerine and orange pith.<\/p>\n “We have been fortunate to receive tremendous support from Brandon through the wide range of media outlets he has represented over the years. It was a great honor when he approached us about collaborating on San Diego Beer News<\/i>\u2019s first-anniversary beer,\u201d says Tallman. \u201cWest Coast IPA was an easy style selection to start the conversation, which then led into the qualities we wanted to achieve in the beer. Cover Story features a light-colored malt profile, which results in an extremely dry and drinkable West Coast IPA that showcases the beautiful qualities of our hand-selected Mosaic, Motueka, Simcoe and Citra, plus a small amount of Cashmere.”<\/p>\n Cover Story IPA\u2019s public-release event will take place Friday, August 6 from<\/b> 4 to 10 p.m. <\/b>at Burgeon Beer Co.\u2019s tasting room in downtown San Diego\u2019s Little Italy neighborhood.
