Temecula based Wiens Brewing Company (pronounced “Weenz”) has been pumping out great craft brews since 2012. The family originally began in the wine business, starting their own vineyard back in 2001 and has since expanded their repertoire to craft beer.

Appearance: The Insomniac pours a very light crisp golden color with a very big cream white head. Tons of lacing as you enjoy

Aroma: Tons of citrus and tropical fruit aromas. Great hoppy smell that hits you immediately

Taste: A hop heads dream. Starts out bitter with a malt backbone that settles in near the end but does not completely cover up the bitterness. Not a surprise taste as the Insomnia boosts a high 95 IBU. Tons of great hop taste but not for the faint of heart. Fruits mix nicely with the malt

Mouthfeel: As stated before, big hoppy taste with a bitterness that stays long after you first sip. Medium to moderate level of carbonation. Big hoppy taste that will give your taste buds a wake-up call

Overall: The Insomnia is a classic example of a big, bold west coast IPA. Tons of great citrus and floral hop flavor that packs a punch. The bitterness might turn some off this brew but will definitely be a selling point for those who cannot get enough hops in their beverage. Great Brew with great flavor, worth a try if you get the opportunity. Cheers!

PR / Marketing Intern

I am a sports fanatic, music lover, outdoor enthusiast and beer advocate born and raised in sunny San Diego, CA. While I am not out exploring San Diego’s craft beer scene, I can be found hanging out at the beach with friends or attending southern California’s many live music events. My passion for craft beer was inherited from my father while home brewing together in their garage. I continued to share his passion for craft beer with friends while attending college in Los Angeles, where I was able to explore the craft beer scene outside of San Diego. In the future, I hope to be involved in Marketing/ Event Planning for the craft beer industry so I can spread my love and passion for beer with the larger San Diego community. I am an avid sports fan and can be seen sharing a pint with other aliens at local Padre and Charger games!
