For this feature on coffee beer, the brewers reached deep into the oak cathedral to create two beers with distinct characteristics. The first, highlighted by Mostra Coffee’s Costa Rican “Aguas Claras”, is the most complete beer from Tusk & Grain to date. Highlighted by chocolate, earth, and floral tones, resulting in harmony of a blend of two-thirds tequila barrel aged and one-third bourbon barrel aged imperial porter is something truly unique.
“The balance of flavors in this beer are incredibly apparent and subtle at the same time. Equal parts bourbon, tequila, coffee, and Mexican chocolate, all delivered in a classically executed imperial porter, this beer provides plenty of body, a mild bite, and a lingering, earthy finish.” says Barrel Master, Greg Peters.
The second beer layers fruit notes on fruit notes by aging our imperial porter in brandy barrels with the addition of Kenyan “Karagoto” coffee from award winning Bird Rock Coffee Roasters. Vanilla, chocolate, blackberry, and black currant aromas explode from this beer. “Exceptionally unique and thought provoking, the aromas and flavors put forth by this beer will not truly appear at first sip.” Greg adds, “As you work your way through your favorite snifter glass, oak, dark fruit, toasted nuts, chocolate and caramel become apparent. This beer is warming all the way through.”
