Founded in 1992, Shipyard Brewing Company is the largest brewery in Maine and is available in 40 of the 50 states. Shipyard began brewing for Federal Jack’s Restaurant and Brew Pub in Kennebunk, and soon demand became so large that a standalone brewery was built, nestled along the Portland waterfront. Shipyard’s pledge “to brewing the freshest, most flavorful, full-bodied ales available using only the finest, all natural ingredients” still stands today. Get out and grab yourself some and experience it for yourself!

20160718_192246Appearance: The Monkey Fist IPA pours a deep amber gold color with a nice large head that compacts as the beer sits. Good amount of lacing as it is enjoyed

Aroma: Rich malty aromas that are combined with a pleasant amount of hops and citrus flavors. Almost bitter smell

Taste: Mild hop presence and not too bitter. Notes of pine and citrus along with toasted malt. Fairly dry for an IPA. Easy to drink, slightly sweet at the end with a hint of plum. Traditional English IPA

Mouthfeel: Light to medium amount of carbonation. Suits the beer nicely and leads to its drinkability. Bitter and dry at first and slightly sweet at the end.

Overall: The Monkey Fist IPA is a solid traditional English IPA. Decent amount of bitterness with a dry taste that is balanced with malt, citrus, and pine. Easy to drink as the alcohol is masked well by the combination of flavors.

About The Author

PR / Marketing Intern

I am a sports fanatic, music lover, outdoor enthusiast and beer advocate born and raised in sunny San Diego, CA. While I am not out exploring San Diego’s craft beer scene, I can be found hanging out at the beach with friends or attending southern California’s many live music events. My passion for craft beer was inherited from my father while home brewing together in their garage. I continued to share his passion for craft beer with friends while attending college in Los Angeles, where I was able to explore the craft beer scene outside of San Diego. In the future, I hope to be involved in Marketing/ Event Planning for the craft beer industry so I can spread my love and passion for beer with the larger San Diego community. I am an avid sports fan and can be seen sharing a pint with other aliens at local Padre and Charger games!
