Councilman Cate thanked Sam Adams last night for all of the work they have done in the San Diego area for craft brewers and small business owners through the Brewing the American Dream program. He presented Jennifer Glanville, Director of Brewery Programs for Sam Adams, with a certificate that noted June 15, 2015 as “Sam Adams Day” in San Diego.
That was not the only highlight of the evening. Dana Stenzel of Stenzelberry pitched for the win with her Sweet Fire Pepper Jelly. She was one of five food and beverage entrepreneurs who competed in the 2015 Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream Pitch Room regional competition in San Diego.
Each entrepreneur had two minutes to present their business ideas to a panel of industry experts. The entrepreneurs sold everything from craft beer to coffee beans to pepper jelly. Following each pitch, the panel of judges questioned the contestants and gave feedback.
Stenzel will now go on to compete in the finals in New York City this December for a chance to win a $10,000 business grant and extended mentoring from Sam Adams. The runner-up was Deanne Gustafson of Kombucha on Tap.
The judges were enthusiastic and offered constructive, real-time advice to the participants. Tim Perreira, Vice President of Food and Beverage of Islands, reached out this morning to express how terrific his experience was as a judge.
After the winner was announced, more than 50 small business owners and entrepreneurs participated in the Speed Coaching event. They received valuable advice from more than 30 coaches, including Bethany DeHaan, National Account Manager for The Boston Beer Company, with her “Perfecting Your Pitch” table.
