Have you ever tried a Night Stout humans? Well here is your chance! Brewed by head brewer Adam Jester from Pizza Port Solana Beach, this special brew session started at dusk and continued on through the night in order for the stout to take in all the darkness that surrounded it! We love this creative twist on a traditional brew style! Head on over to Solana Beach Pizza Port to get your hands on it! Also don’t forget to check out our interview with Adam in this weeks Meet the Brewer Section! Cheers!
Appearance: The Post Meridiem pours a very dark auburn, almost opaque brown color. The brew has a small white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a nice small amount of lacing on he glass.
Aroma: Hints of coffee porter as well as vanilla. Aroma is not too overpowering with a hint of nutty flavor, not too much but just enough to know its there.
Taste: Bitter at first with notes of coffee, malt, roasted nuts, vanilla, and a hint of darkness. The bitterness comes on moderately strong at first but then eases allowing the flavors of the beer come out. Starts off with strong taste of dark roasted coffee then moves to hints of vanilla and ends with notes of a roasted nut. No strong aftertaste or bit to this beer. Smooth, warming and almost creamy.
Mouthfeel: The light to medium carbonation suits this beer well, very flavorful without being overpowering, no harsh aftertaste, similar to a milk or peanut butter stout.
Overall: This a very solid beer for you Imperial Stout lovers. Flavors create a balanced beer that is not all over the place. Bitterness is moderate but nothing too crazy. Coffee, malt, roasted nut, and vanilla flavors all mix well without one being too overpowering. Has a bittersweet finish that leaves you wanting more of this darkness. Thanks Adam!
