Out of Local San Diego Brewery New English, comes their Pure & Simple IPA. Winner of a Gold Medal at the 2014 LA County Fair, this refreshing IPA will sure to be a crowd pleaser now that the days are getting longer. For those of you that don’t know, New English was founded in 2007 by Simon Lacey, with a goal of supplying English Style Ales to the West Coast market. Since then they have expanded their repertoire to include west coast staples such as double and single IPA’s.
Appearance: The Pure & Simple pours with a small creamy head that settles very nicely. The beer itself is a medium hazy golden color with good carbonation.
Aroma: Strong pleasant tropical fruity aroma, with notes of pine as well as malt. Possible elements of tangerines as well.
Taste: Really solid IPA body. Classic West Coast IPA flavor. The flavor itself is comes from UK Golden Promise as the base malt, and for color Vienna malt, and Carapils. Medium bitterness with a smooth crisp finish!
Mouthfeel: Great medium body IPA that also has a lasting floral aftertaste. Moderate level of carbonation that suites this style of brew well. Gives it a clean finish.
Overall: Very solid IPA and definitely worth a try. Distinctive West Coast IPA and great flavor due to the Golden Promise malt. Great artwork as well! Reminds this Alien of the Weeping Angles from the Dr. Who universe. Crack open one and enjoy it with your favorite TV show! Don’t blink!
