Mission Brewing is arguably San Diego’s oldest name in brewing. Originally opened in 1913, but shut down due to prohibition, Mission was reborn in 2007 by local home brewer Dan Selis. Today’s Mission Brewing started out as a brewery add-on to a restaurant in UTC. They soon outgrew this space and upgraded to a warehouse in Chula Vista and most recently relocated to the historic Wonder Bread Factory in Downtown, right next to the ballpark! This beautiful prime location boasts a spacious 2,500 square foot tasting room and seven flagship brews as well as many seasonal and craft cocktails. Great brews, awesome atmosphere and fantastic location, this tasting room is definitely worth a visit next time your downtown or headed to a Padres game!
Appearance: The Plunder IPA pours a deep clean amber color with carbonation bubbles visible rising to the top. Has a medium creamy head with a bit of lacing that clings to that glass as you enjoy.
Aroma: Very fresh hoppy smell with hints of citrus fruits and pine.
Taste: Plunder is a very refreshing IPA that is brewed with 9 different types of hops. Flavors start out strong with bitter hops at the beginning and hints of caramel, tangerine and pine on the back end. Strong IPA but nothing overwhelming.
Mouthfeel: Great IPA flavor, somewhat complex due to the many different types of hops. Medium carbonation that makes this very smooth and crisp.
Overall: Great twist on the traditional IPA. The nine hop varieties give this brew a somewhat complex taste that mixes well with the citrus and pine. Another solid IPA that Mission has added to their lineup. Great anytime beer. Definitely worth a try before a Padres game, try this seasonal brew before its gone!
