The Alien’s dreams have come true! Following our recent invasion of Urge Gastropub and Mason Ale Works (which you can read about here), newly established brewery, Mason Ale Works, has delighted us with news that they will soon bless the palates of San Diegan humans and aliens alike by distributing their liquid gold around the county!

Year-round brews from this brewery will now be available throughout San Diego County. One of the newest breweries on the San Diego beer scene, Mason Ale Works has just released the first three of its core beers. The brewery, housed inside Urge Gastropub and Whiskey Bank in Oceanside, opened at the end of 2015 and since then has quickly risen to be one of the favorites of local beer lovers. Inspired by the desire to compliment the uniquely-designed menu of the new location of Urge Gastropub and distinguish itself from the original location in Rancho Bernardo, customers are also being drawn to the restaurant/brewery for the upscale comfort food knowing that all of the beer is brewed 34 feet away from where they are seated.

Mason Ale Works is the newest brand from local restaurant group 3LB. Restaurants (aka 3 Local Brothers) co-owned by Grant Tondro and fraternal business partners Zak and Nate Higson. When seeking out to establish the Mason Ale Works brand, the owners commissioned highly-experienced and renowned master brewer Mike Rodriguez, veteran of Port Brewing Company/The Lost Abbey and Boulevard Brewing to create Mason’s noteworthy brew varieties, including these three initial core beers, “Jambi” (West Coast style IPA), “Charley Hustle” (Red IPA), and “Cash” (Imperial Coffee Stout).

“We’re stoked to already be able to distribute these brews throughout the San Diego area and very excited that local beer lovers have all been giving us extremely positive feedback,” says Grant Tondro, co-owner of Mason Ale Works. “We’re looking forward to releasing more of our beers for distribution in the coming months and can’t wait to share more updates and surprises with our fans very soon.”

For the “Jambi” (West Coast IPA), with an ABV of 6.7%, there’s an aroma of lemon, grapefruit and navel orange with a dry finish and an aggressive presence of Simcoe, Amarillo, Cascade Mosaic, Citra, Brewers Fold and Centennial hops. While the “Charley Hustle” (Red IPA), 6.8% ABV, has more of a complex maltiness contrasted by deep hop flavors and a lingering bitterness with an aroma of toasted caramel and notes of pine resin and citrus. Lastly, the “Cash” (Imperial Coffee Stout), while very crushable, still packs a hefty 9.4% ABV and brewed with Costa Rica Aguas Claras by Mostra Coffee that gives it a rich mocha flavor and a pronounced coffee aroma, as well as chocolate and oats.

In addition to these core beers, there’s a year-round Gose style ale as well as a fantastic selection of special-released varieties including a Petite Saison, hoppy Wheat Ale, Belgian style IPA, a hoppy Brown Ale, and coming later this year in fall/winter, the brewery will be releasing “Mason Snale Works”, a collection of spirit and wine barrel aged ales that will include both spirit-driven beers and sour ales of the highest caliber.
