This past week the Aliens invaded Barrel Republic‘s newest beer bar located in San Diego’s most recent booming craft beer community, Oceanside, CA. Barrel Republic joins the ranks of breweries and beer havens such as Urge Gastropub and Whiskey Bank, Bagby Beer Co., Breakwater Brewing and more that now call Oceanside home! Barrel Republic brings their own twist to the O-side craft beer scene, allowing patrons to pour their own brews! WHAT? YES! At Barrel Republic customers are fully in charge of their beer experience, with certified beer servers on deck to help with any questions one may have. With 60 taps there is a little something for everyone to enjoy, from delicious craft beer (duh) to wine, soda and even a specialty made tea from the awesome humans over at Living Tea. With the draft list changing with each kicked keg, and menu items rotating in and out, you are sure to have a new experience each time you visit. Bar manager Sean Hale and Chef Michael C. Brown really spoiled the s*%t out of the Aliens, providing delicious samples of their extensive food menu and giving us a sneak peak at their immaculate keg room. Seriously…it’s the most organized keg room the Alien’s have ever set eyes on.
The Aliens love being in control, especially when it comes to mind control beer control. Being able to pour our own beers allowed the Aliens to enjoy little samples of various brews and some larger pours of our favorites. These included…
Knee Deep Brewing‘s Señor Smiley American IPA
Bitter Brother‘s Prodigal Sun American IPA
Half Door‘s Gimmik Ale; a Chocolate Peanut Butter Latte Inspired Ale on Nitro which we ever so wisely paired with Chef Michael’s delicious peanut butter chocolate crunch bars!
Holy smokes, we are so unbelievably thrilled that Barrel Republic’s Oceanside location has incorporated food. Chef Michael comes with years of experience and has created a delectable and diverse menu that is perfect for sharing. The Aliens dove into a sampler plate of various appetizers, salads and the holy grail; the crispy avocado grilled cheese (*drool). We highly recommend everything on the menu but our favorites (that we tried) include…
Bacon (BACON!!!!) wrapped pork belly bites – A mouthwatering honey glazed blend of crispy bacon and juicy pork belly that just melted in our mouths.
Citrus Avocado Salad – Came with a new item the aliens had never heard of before, the “avocado egg”. Basically it is half an avocado with queso fresco in the middle.
Crispy Avocado Grilled Cheese – Oh…my…goodness…the Aliens CANNOT get over this sandwich. We are still perplexed by how Chef Michael is able to make such a traditionally rich meal feel so light and munchable (don’t think this is a word but deal with it). All in all the Alien’s experience at Barrel Republic was out of this world. The food, the drink and the humans were all fantastic and we are ever so excited to visit again.
