On a warm, sunny afternoon in Downtown San Diego, this alien was exploring for beer, and found it at Half Door Brewing Company, located just down the street one block from Petco Park at 903 Island Avenue.

The brewery is in a quaint, older southern style home with a sprawling porch nestled in between tall buildings, and provides a variety of cozy places to sit both inside and outside on the porch. Upon entering, you feel like you’ve entered into a museum, and once settled in with a tasty pint, the fall breeze and watching people walking down the street, my alien senses felt like I reliving a small piece of history, back in a simpler time, about one hundred years ago.

On the beer menu were a few beer varieties, but once my alien eyes landed on the “You Can’t Be Serious!” 5.4% Schwarzbier collaboration with Monkey Paw Brewing, I had no resistance to the temptation! It was a delightful experience indeed, and I left with a warm, roasty sensation that lasted through the rest of the afternoon!

About The Author

A San Diegan for 20 years, I am really enjoying the ever-growing craft beer scene here. I am a musician for 30+ years, a volunteer at the San Diego Humane Society, and recently graduated from San Diego State University-Professional Certificate in the Business of Craft Beer Program! I especially enjoy good beer styles while watching and sitting in with friends at local jam sessions, hanging out with my pets and shelter dogs, camping and now trying my hand at homebrewing. As someone who likes to try new things, being abducted by Beer Alien is an exciting adventure to many new opportunities! Cheers!
