A new brewery and tasting room that ditches the gluten, but not the goodness, will soon emerge on the San Diego brewing scene.
Duck Foot Brewing Company is the newest addition to America’s Finest craft beer world. Located in Miramar, around the corner from other top brewing companies, Duck Foot’s new tasting room and brewery will bring a unique alternative to the craft beer industry: the addition of a natural, flavorless enzyme that removes gluten. Bloating be gone!
While Duck Foot Brewing Company should be recognized for its standout flavors that emphasize the natural essences of the region, the fact people with Celiac Disease and gluten-sensitivity can enjoy it, too, makes it an event more distinct company.
“Beer is the quintessential comfort drink for so many Americans,” said self-proclaimed “Head Quack” and Encinitas resident Matt DelVecchio. “With Duck Foot, drinking beer can be both comfortable and delicious for everyone. When your wife encourages you to drink, you know you have a good thing going.”
The core beer list consists of a Blonde Ale, Red Ale, IPA, White Double IPA and a Chocolate Hazelnut Porter. Seasonal offerings emphasize the flavors of the region. For example: Honey Ale made with California Orange Blossom Honey, Coconut Molasses Brown Ale, Russian Imperial Stout and Belgian Wit bier.
DelVecchio and business partner Brett Goldstock of Scripps Ranch began as two home brewers that simply loved good beer. But when DelVecchio discovered he had Celiac Disease and could no longer enjoy gluten, an ingredient found in nearly all beer, he swore a lot, cursed the world, drank an Arnold Palmer, threw it up and then made the switch to gluten-free brews. Discouraged by the existing gluten-free beer options, however, DelVecchio started creating his own destiny in his garage, with bold flavors found nowhere else.
“It took us a year, but we now have a collection of fantastic brews and will soon have a spectacular community tasting room with communal seating and 20 beers on tap,” Goldstock said. “We’re proud of the quality of our beer. Once open, we’ll get it into bottles for everyone to enjoy at their favorite restaurants, too.”
The team at Duck Foot is not on a mission to convert the masses to be gluten-free; rather, to serve damn great beer that everyone can enjoy. Cheers to that!
Duck Foot Brewing Company will open soon. Several of its key materials were on one of those big ol’ ships off the coast, held up during the labor dispute. They now have their tanks and all that other fun stuff they need to make the special beverage we all adore.
