Perhaps Clown Shoes Brewing can be best described in the words of its founder, Gregg Berman. “Clowns are questionable but the shoes make me laugh. They remind me about humility and to find humor in life. Our mission now is to produce beer without pretension while being free and a little crazy.” Brewing out of Ipswich Massachusetts, Clown Shoes brewing is still rather new to the craft beer scene but will be sure to turn heads in future. Keep up the good work guys!
Appearance: The Third Party Candidate pours a rich golden color. Very little, to no head, settles very quickly with a bit of lacing as it is enjoyed.
Aroma: Fruity, almost flowery aroma. Malt presence at the very end. Hoppy body, with a hint of lager.
Taste: Bitter at first taste. Plenty of hoppy flavor. Starts out with a burst of fruity flavor that quickly moves on to a more subtle lager finish. Bitter throughout, interesting transition of flavors that can be abrupt but nothing ridiculous.
Mouthfeel: Bitter from start to finish. Flavor lingers on palate. Finishes crisp and clean. Medium to moderate level of carbonation.
Overall: The Third Party Candidate is not a beer for the weak of heart. The high level of bitterness might turn some drinkers off, but the great mixture of hops and quick transition to lager makes this brew very unique. Bitterness level is nothing hop heads can’t deal with, and lager backbone appeals to many different types of beer enthusiasts. A beer that is brewed outside of the box and definitely worth a try! Cheers!
