With all the cold, grey weather it’s nice to report there’s a perfect beer to pair with the weather. That’s the Chuckanut Scarlet Ale, known as a ruby style ale in England. This reddish color beer has just the right amount of bitterness to balance out the malts for an all-day tipple. Take a taste and you can just imagine sitting in a warm English pub with friends and a cozy fire in the hearth.

Scarlet Ale is considered uncommon in the world of beers today and Chuckanut is excited to rediscover this old British style, sessionable ale. Using Best Malts Red X, Weyermann’s Carared &#038; Melanoidan malts Chuckanut accentuates the reddish hues in Scarlet Ale. Its medium body is highlighted by toasted malt flavors balanced by the hops making Chuckanut Scarlet Ale a satisfying any-time-of-day sipper. 				<title>Craft Beer Marketing Awards Announces Tattoo Category for Charity
In the spirit of giving, the Craft Beer Marketing Awards (CBMAS) has announced that 100% of all proceeds of its new category – “Best Beer/Brewing-related Tattoo” – will be donated to The Michael James Jackson Foundation (MJF), an organization that funds scholarship awards to black, indigenous, and people of color within the brewing and distilling trades for a more just, equitable, and dynamic future.

“We are helping literally change the face of American brewing,” said Garrett Oliver, Founder/Chair, MJF and Brewmaster, The Brooklyn Brewery. “We sent more people of color to Siebel Institute of Technology last year, than had attended the entire previous decade. The MJF is all about genuine and lasting change.”

The decision to create the category is because of the popularity of tattoos in the beer industry.

“Tattoos are empowering, they look awesome, and they just make life cooler.” said Jim McCune, CBMAS Co-Founder. “Tattoos and craft beer are synonymous. The CBMAS brand is covered in ink – from our judges to our graphics, and Crushie trophy!”

The fourth annual CBMAS Awards Competition is now accepting beer-related marketing and design entries from around the globe (including hard seltzer, cider, mead, and RTD cocktails). The deadline for entries is January 27, 2023. Breweries, agencies, artists, and marketing partners are all invited to enter their best work.

Additions this year include new categories, a redesigned Crushie award trophy, and plans for an in-person awards ceremony during the week of the 2023 Craft Brewers Conference in Nashville, TN.

The CBMAs is the first worldwide awards program that focuses on excellence in the artistic and creative marketing and packaging efforts of breweries, designers, and agencies. It has become the industry’s expert voice and hosts a marketing podcast – Marketing on Tap – sponsored by EGC Group.

Houston-based Hillebrand Bev Pros returns as the presenting sponsor for the fourth year in a row. New sponsors this year include: WA-based Yakima Chief Hops, NY-based DWS Printing, AL-based Steel City Taps, and VA-based BarTrack.

For the first time Chuckanut Brewery has released a Barleywine. Originally brewed as a collaboration with North Fork Brewery almost one year ago this is a robust beer worth waiting for. Reddish gold in color and amazingly smooth for a high alcohol 10.3% ale, Chuckanut Barleywine is a beer for celebrating the season. Lots of wine grapes, fruit and toffee flavors collide with a dry smooth finish.

Chuckanut’s Barleywine has the characteristics of both American and English styles of this kind of very old strong ale. A balance of sweetness from the large percentage of Vienna malts that were used and a slight bitterness from noble hops mingle together for a warming palate and balanced flavors. Currently on tap at both P. Nut Beer Hall in Portland and South Nut Tap Room in Skagit Valley. This is a memorable, one-of-a-kind, deceptively rich beer that will impress beyond the final sip. It will soon be available at very limited accounts in Puget Sound, Portland and West Coast big beer festivals.

Chuckanut Brewery brews award winning Lagers and Ales and has won Large Brewery of the Year at WA Beer Awards 2017, 2019 and 2021 and Small Brewery at the GABF 2011. Lakewood Brewing has announced its complete lineup of fall and winter beers ranging from its seasonal favorite, Punkel, to its Salted Caramel Temptress, a twist on the family-owned brewery’s classic top-selling Temptress milk stout. Some of the new releases will be sold market-wide, including the popular Temptress Seduction mix-pack, new seasonal Sweater Weather, and obviously Bourbon Barrel Temptress, while some will be Taproom exclusive.

“We just marked ten years of making seriously fun beer and our first decade deserves a big beer line-up to close the year,” said Wim Bens, Founder and President of Lakewood. “We explored some past recipes and brought back updated fan favorites while also launching new varieties. This year marks a milestone for our little brewery that we won’t soon forget.”

Each year’s release has subtle differences that highlight the multi-faceted nature of Temptress, which helps make BBT X sought-after barrel-aged masterpiece. CHRONIC CHILL - Taproom Only - Lakewood’s complex, fruity, and dank red cold IPA with galaxy hops and hemp terpenes, brewed in collaboration with Intrinsic Smokehouse &#038; Brewery. A cold IPA is fermented at a lower temperature than normal to give a dry bright finish.

FRENCH QUARTER TEMPTRESS, encompassing flavors from bourbon barrel-aged coffee made by Noble Coyote Coffee Roasters and a touch of chicory, both of which give this infused version of Lakewood’s imperial milk stout that signature New Orleans flair.

LION’S SHARE X, Lakewood’s 10th Anniversary release is a fan-favorite Belgian dark strong that is complex, rich, smooth, and dangerously drinkable for its ABV. Lakewood’s version takes it to the next level with added strength and complexity from the bourbon and port barrels it is aged in.

MECHANICAL GRIZZLY, an imperial English brown ale, brewed with dark roasted coffee beans from Fort Worth Coffee Emporium and English toffee, making it delectably fun to sip and to describe.
