So it’s that time of year again.  Pumpkin beers are everywhere.  This BeerAlien went to Keg N Bottle and chose this as my first pumpkin beer of the year.  I have heard good things about this one so I was excited to give it a try.

Appearance: It comes in a very nice 22-ounce bottle, with a gold foil cover.  I poured this into a snifter glass and was surprised at it’s clarity.  The beer poured a transparent copper color with a slight off-white puffy head that settled down to a nice ring.

Smell: This beer has huge nutmeg, cinnamon and clove notes with slight alcohol, pumpkin and sweet malts. Very pleasant to smell.

Taste: Very sweet!  This beer is so sweet that I would feel it would work great with some ice cream or as a marinade. The pumpkin pie spices are very strong and you get some hop black pepper spice on the back end.  I also get some brown sugar tastes under the spice.

Mouthfeel: This beer has a very sticky feel to it.  I am guessing this is due to the unfermented sugars.  After a few sips, you notice some tanen qualities (when your teeth feel kind of rough) that I am guessing comes naturally from the pumpkins added to the boil.

This a pretty good beer but may not be for everyone.  It’s very sweet and strong and I had to take this bottle pretty slow, because of the sweetness.  This is a bottle you want to take over to share at dinner with family or friends.  Save it for after the dinner and have it with desert.
