maiden-small

So this kinda goes along the same lines as my last review… the Iron Maiden Trooper Ale.  We picked this one because it uses the Iron Maiden font.  Yeah, I know I am a sucker, but Ninkasi also put out the Sleigh’r double alt beer using the Slayer band font.  I collect cool bottles and I really like it when two of my favorite hobbies, beer and heavy metal, come together.  So I poured this into a pint glass and enjoyed the experience.

Appearance: Pours a pale gold color with a thick white head that quickly fizzles down to a thin ring that leaves a heavy lace down the glass

Smell: Lemon, pineapple, some pine and slight cereal.  The hops are pretty dominant in this beer but that is to be expected.

Taste: Lemon peel and pine seem to be the dominant taste but there is still slight hints of malt sweetness.  Hop bomb!  This beer tastes like pure citrus hops with less tropical tastes than the smell would lead you to believe.

Mouthfeel: Astringent and heavily carbonated.  A bit thin feeling but the carbonation makes up for it.

Despite not being super strong, this beer has about as much flavor as some of the big name west coast IPAs.  I have seen beers like this sought after in trades in beer forums.  I am just not sure this will be one, due to the Ninkasi brand not being that big of a presence, yet.  I’d recommend this to fans of Pliny the Elder, Stone Ruination IPA and Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA.
