The Family Values Imperial Brown Ale with Cocoa, celebrates the best of the Midwest. A collaboration between August Schell Brewing, Dark Horse Brewing, Half Acre Beer, Perennial Artisan Ales, Sun King Brewing, and Sierra Nevada, this delicious Imperial Brown Ale is crafted with a combination of roasted malts, honey, oats and wild rice with a nice smooth ending of chocolate cocoa nibs. We just couldn’t get enough of the malty goodness!

20160519_180742Appearance: The Family Values pours a deep brown color that is completely opaque. Has a very small of white head that compresses.

Aroma: Very pleasant aromas of toasted malts with honey and chocolate. Very strong as you would expect from an imperial.

Taste: The honey makes this brew surprisingly sweet. A backbone of toasted malt complements the honey nicely with a smooth finish if chocolate. Very drinkable despite having a 8.5% ABV.

Mouthfeel: Very smooth for a Imperial Brown Ale. Carbonation level is mild to moderate which suite the flavors well. Smooth finish with chocolate aftertaste. An after dinner/dessert beer that isn’t too sweet.

Overall: This beer is delicious and a great take on a traditional brown. You can really taste the honey and chocolate. Flavors all mix very well and mask the high alcohol percentage well. If you’re a fan of the heavier brown ales this is definitely worth a try. Rich malty flavors and sweet honey and chocolate give everyone a little something to enjoy! Beer Camp strikes again with another awesome beer, Cheers!

I am a sports fanatic, music lover, outdoor enthusiast and beer advocate born and raised in sunny San Diego, CA. While I am not out exploring San Diego’s craft beer scene, I can be found hanging out at the beach with friends or attending southern California’s many live music events. My passion for craft beer was inherited from my father while home brewing together in their garage. I continued to share his passion for craft beer with friends while attending college in Los Angeles, where I was able to explore the craft beer scene outside of San Diego. In the future, I hope to be involved in Marketing/ Event Planning for the craft beer industry so I can spread my love and passion for beer with the larger San Diego community. I am an avid sports fan and can be seen sharing a pint with other aliens at local Padre and Charger games!
