“Much more than just a book of photos, this is an informative and fun art book”
– Beer Alien co-founder Terry Bunch
Schiffer Publishing sent us a review copy of the art book “Canned: Artwork of the Modern American Beer Can.” Our alien eyes were quite happy as we browsed through this book enjoying beer can art and tidbits of info about the art and the breweries that produce the beer.
“Canned: Artwork of the Modern American Beer Can” is divided into eleven geographical chapters showcasing beer can art from each area. Each entry is accompanied by little articles explaining the art depicted on each can. The explanations of the can art are amazing and add a whole new perspective to the art itself. The Beer Aliens are normally so focused on what is inside the beer cans, we never really pay attention to the art ON the cans.
“Canned: Artwork of the Modern American Beer Can” features a foreward written by Dale Katechis, owner and founder of Oskar Blues Brewery. In the forward, Dale tells the story of how Oskar Blues started canning their beer and what they up to today. After the foreward, there is an introduction that explains author Russ Phillips’ inspiration to create “Canned: Artwork of the Modern American Beer Can.” Then there is a short history of the modern American beer can which is an interesting look into how the process evolved over time. Turning the next page, we being the eleven geographical chapters of canned beer art. There is also a handy index at the end to help you locate your favorite breweries.
“Canned: Artwork of the Modern American Beer Can” is both visually appealing and informative and would make a great addition to any beer lover or art lover’s collection of coffee table art books.
