Here comes another beer from San Diego power house Ballast Point! The Indra Kunindra is an collaboration between Ballast Point brewing and award-winning homebrewer Alex Tweet. Labeled a curry export stout, this is defiantly one of the most interesting beers you will ever have the pleasure of trying. A great example of how unique brewing can be!
Appearance: The Indra Kunindra pours a dark opaque brown to blackish color. Has a medium head that compresses into milky creamy looking lacing on the glass.
Aroma: This beer has a wonderful aroma of curry, coconut, lime, and cumin. You can really smell the curry, cumin and coconut! We were amazed how present the flavors were without overpowering the aroma of the beer.
Taste: Medium carbonation, the Curry and Cumin really stand out with just a hint of coconut. Then the Cayenne peppers come into play and deliver a nice kick of spice that ends smooth and almost sweet with coconut. Very complex and radical flavor. Definitely one of the most unique beers we have ever tried!
Mouthfeel: The Indra Kunindra can be tough for people who are not big fans of spice. Medium carbonation suits it well but the peppers are the main experience, not your beer flavor.
Overall: While this brew might not be for everyone one, we loved its radical flavor and unique take on the traditional stout. Most likely not an everyday beer due to the amount of spice but would be great for a beer pairing. Definitely worth a try as this brew is an experience. It is also a great beer to cook with!
