Released on February 1, 2016, the Americano Stout by Stone Brewing Co. is “a decidedly imperial stout with espresso.” The bold and rich coffee notes in this particular brew come from the artisanal espresso-roast beans that are added into the mash along with Columbus, Chinook, Amarillo and Cascade hops. This results with a bold taste of coffee with a slight presence of citrus and resin hops. The beans selected for this particular stout comes from the same local roasters who contributed to the popular 2013 Stone ESPRESSO Imperial Russian Stout. For those who are fans of stouts and coffee-beers, the Americano Stout would be a good choice to try.
Being an imperial stout, it is a darker beer. From the bottle, it pours a rich, dark, almost black color with a nice tan head.
From the moment you pop off the top of the bottle, you get a whiff of fresh-roasted espresso, an almost borderline burnt scent. There’s some notes of chocolate, roasted malt, and citrusy hops.
There is a distinct, but great taste of espresso with every sip of this particular stout. There is some sweetness as a result from the malt, however with light bitterness as well. There are hints of burnt vanilla, marshmallow, and citrusy hops that can be noted. It has a very earthly, hoppy, and slightly burnt, finish.
The Americano Stout is medium bodied. It’s creamy with a fair amount of carbonation. As a stout, it’s very smooth and easy to drink even with its hint of hoppiness.
