Alpine Beer Company and BNS Brewing teamed up to create Fireman’s Friend, a double dry hopped IPA for Alpine’s Firefighter Appreciation night. Alpine is notorious for their hoppy IPAs and BNS recently took home the GABF Gold Medal for their Revolver IPA.
This week we traveled up the mountain and picked up a few growlers, the Fireman’s Friend being one of them. They say “sharing is caring” on planet Earth so we popped open the growler the next day and shared with some human comrades.
Appearance: This beer pours medium amber in color with a fluffy off-white head that stuck around long after the pour. When held up to the sky you could almost make out the Beer Alien’s home planet, it was THAT clear!
Aroma: HOPS HOPS HOPS right up the nose. Dank, resinous pine up front, citrusy hints of orange peel and tangerine, with sweet cracker malt coming through strong at the end.
Flavor: Flavor follows the nose, a little sweeter than I expected. The beer balances towards the hops, of course being a dry hopped IPA you would expect nothing less. Strong piney and earthy hops dominate with a dry cracker malt backbone supporting its hoppy counterpart.
Mouthfeel: This beer is exceptionally smooth for a double dry hopped IPA, almost drinks like a session IPA. Bitterness is medium-low to medium, with the hops coating your tongue, allowing you to enjoy this beer long after your last sip.
Overall: We expect nothing less than excellence from our friends on the mountain at Alpine Beer Co. The collaboration with BNS created a beautiful double dry-hopped American IPA that was brewed for the men and women that dedicate their lives to keeping humans (and aliens) in San Diego safe. For all the hopheads out there we definitely suggest getting over to Alpine or BNS to test out the dangerously smooth IPA. Let us know what you think! Cheers!
