Anticipating Halloween and the opening of the new AleSmith facility, my alien taste buds were craving AleSmith’s seasonal concoction, Evil Dead Red Ale.

This smooth red ale is released every Halloween season during the months of September and October. Besides this being an exceptional beer, the spooky zombies stumbling through a graveyard illustrated on the front of the bottle will intrigue you enough to pick up a bomber. It’s creative bottle art and clever ABV %, makes this beer hard to resist giving a shot!

Appearance: This brew pours a clear, deep amber, almost mahogany color. But when held up to the light, it takes on more of a crimson, blood red color. A tan frothy head remained a creamy blanket on top as I sipped.

Smell: Earthy aroma with moderate malt aroma, with strong pine and citrus notes. I also pulled a slight caramel and toffee smell from this beer. After letting the beer breathe and warm a little; sweet, bready aromas definitely became more prominent.

Taste: The smell directly translated to the taste of this beer. At first I got a slight peppery-spice taste but then soon settles to a sweet, smooth finish. Tastes of sweet caramel, bread, pine, dark fruit notes such as plum and cherry, balanced with a little spice from the hops makes this beer very easy to drink.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body with moderate carbonation. Very malty with a somewhat dry, crisp finish. Extremely smooth!

Overall, the spiciness from the hops mellowed by the sweet malty flavor make this a great seasonal, and should be best enjoyed while watching your favorite horror flick! Be sure to get your human hands on one while it’s still available!

Also, keep an eye for its red-blooded cousin, My Bloody Valentine Ale, that is released around Valentine season.

Note: Looking for something to munch on while enjoying this brew? Try some pieces of toffee or carmel apples to compliment this concoction and help get you in the Halloween spirit!
