We popped and shared this bottle with friends at San Diego Beerworks this week. It presented a sweet aroma on the nose and made all the Aliens feel pretty swell for the night!
Alesmith Bourbon Barrel Aged Wee Heavy
Appearance: Presented as a dark reddish brown with a minimal tan head which dissipated quickly.
Aroma: Smells of bourbon and rich notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak. We also picked up some scents reminiscent of marshmallows (YUM).
Flavor: Taste followed flavor and did not disappoint! There is a toasty nuttiness, with an intense burnt caramel, and molasses flavor along with a subtle vanilla sweetness. The bourbon mixes in nicely and the alcohol creates a nice warming affect.
Mouthfeel: This beer is lighter than we expected. Easy drinking with minimal carbonation.
Overall: Overall I would expect nothing short of amazing from Alesmith Brewing Co. This beer drinks very well and would definitely be classified as a desert beer! It would continue to age well with time but all in all you don’t want to miss out.
